Report On Nigerian Cinema In 2015

According to the records provided by FilmOne Distribution which accounted for 7 of the films in the top 10 including the two most anticipated and successful Nollywood films of 2015 – Mo Abudu’s Fifty and Genevieve Nnaji‘s Road to Yesterday, there was a 70% increase in the number of films released in Nigerian cinemas in 2015 (40+) when compared to the number in 2014 (28).

Nigeria’s other cinema distribution giant, Silverbird contributed Omoni Oboli‘s The First Lady, Iyore and Tempting Fate – Kevin Nwankwor‘s Nigerian-American movie which starred star actor, Ramsey Nouah.
Unsurprisingly, the three films that witnessed the highest opening weekends are Taxi Driver, Road to Yesterday and Fifty. The Nigerian box-office is expected to do even better this year as several highly anticipated movies including Izu Ojukwu’s ’76, Mildred Okwo’s Suru L’ere, Kunle Afolayan‘s The CEO and controversial film about Ebola, 93 Days.
