You Are More Than The Choices You've Made

REGARDLESS of what you've done, you are more .....

I once met a guy in church whom I respected a lot. He was a leader in church and was admired by many. In the course of my conversation with him on a certain day, I asked him about his journey with Christ and his struggle with sin. I was surprised when he said he's had no notable "struggles" in serving God. The next question I asked him was "so how do you expect to counsel me if you've never walked in my shoes?" Certain experiences just make you grow in Christ and makes you appreciate what a privilege it is to know God. They also make you stronger.

I have never met any born again christian who has no story to tell about their walk with God. No one is perfect. We are all humans who are simply working towards perfection. Because of my experiences with God, I'm here to tell you that you are more than the choices you've made; regardless of what those choices were. You can always turn your life around and create a new beginning.

Most times we get hung up on the things we did in our past which were wrong or maybe even the things we are still doing right now. But because of fear of the unknown and because we are afraid of rejection, we fail to turn our lives around. Your wrong choices and decisions should not define you or shape your destiny. You have to put your feet down and take a stand, enough is enough. That was then and this is now. Old things are passed away and all things have become new. 2 Corin 5:17. Everything is different for you now.

There is so much more to you than what you see. I mean do you really think God will take his time to create you, only to give up on you so soon? You know, that is one reason why God will NEVER be a man, he NEVER gives up on us and when he says the slates have been wiped clean, they've been wiped clean.  Even if you add up all your bad decisions and mistakes, you are still very much more than that.

I've personally fallen on the wrong track over and over. I cannot count the number of times that I've asked for forgiveness for the same  sin. It becomes frustrating and you start getting angry at yourself and then you begin to think that God sees you the way you see yourself, he does not. You are never to bad for him to love. God loves you far more than you can ever imagine. Don't let your sins hold you hostage. Don't get trapped in your past. and most importantly, don't believe the lies of the enemy.

No matter what you've done, no matter where you've been and no matter who you are, God's arms are always outstretched towards you and all you just have to do is walk into his arms. You are not better than anybody and nobody is better than you, we are all better than what we used to be by the grace of God. You've been remade. Jesus died on the cross so that we will not be slaves to anything. Don't let your poor decisions hold you captive. Break free and let God renew your spirit. ".... but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead," Phill 3:13.

You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade. - (Tenth Avenue North)

So you are an adulterer, a liar, a fornicator, a thief, a prostitute, an unbeliever; so you've done all kinds of drugs, led men astray, committed money rituals, cursed God, you lust, you seduce and even more so, you've been to the pit of hell and back?  "Listen! The LORD's arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call." Isaiah 59:1. "With a mighty hand and outstretched arm; His love endures forever." Psalm 136:12

Love!

  1. I am glad I checked out your blog today. This message is exactly what I needed and it has touched my heart. In the devotional I read today, it said "Do not worry", it actually talked about us forgetting our past and leaving everything to God.
I have been in your shoes several times. Years back, I used to feel I didnt deserve to have the best 'cause of my sins....but today I am glad that although I go through trials and temptations, I am still moving closer to God....this has made me forget my past...that's why I so much love this song "Imagine me" by Kirk Franklin.
